    Applied Longitudinal Data Analysis: Online https://dresa.org.au/events/applied-longitudinal-data-analysis-online-96122d42-a60d-4376-bd7d-11a16df8dcdf Longitudinal Data Analysis is a very popular statistical method in a range of fields including medicine, natural resource management, business and economics. As well as allowing a researcher to elicit the changes in a subject (person, business, etc) over time, longitudinal data is also exceedingly powerful as it allows the within-subject and between-subject variance to be estimated independently (generally allowing the parameters in the statistical model to be estimated with a much tighter accuracy than traditional models). This course provides an overview of Longitudinal Data Analysis. As well as the statistical theory, an overview of the many applications and capabilities of LDA is given. The course is not particularly mathematical, but instead places emphasis on the fundamental concepts of LDA and how it is used by applied researchers. The workshop will focus on linear mixed effects models, however we will also go through generalized linear mixed effects models and any new material a participant will need to understand in order to successfully use generalized LME’s. There will be exercises using both types of models. The computer exercises for this workshop will be conducted in Stata. Stata has been chosen as it provides both basic and advanced functionality for conducting longitudinal data analyses. A full set of exercises and solutions in Stata will be provided in this workshop, where they include the Stata syntax required to perform each individual exercise. In addition the workshop presenter will demonstrate how to use Stata for the first exercise in each session prior to workshop participants individually working though the exercises for that session. (That is, data that is derived from subjects who are nested within groups or data that involves repeated measures that are nested within subjects) In conventional regression analysis it is assumed that subjects are randomly selected and, therefore, all the variance in your dependent variables is due solely to variation amongst individuals. However, in most studies, subjects are clustered within a group and multiple groups are sampled. For example, in an education study, we may have students clustered within multiple classes; in a human resourcing study, we may have employees clustered within multiple work units or teams. In such sampling, although some of the variance in your dependent variables will be due to variation amongst individuals, some the variance in your dependent variables will also be due to variation amongst the groups themselves. In such cases, multilevel analysis (MLA) should be employed to account for the different levels of variation. Repeated measure designs should also be analysed using multilevel analysis because the repeated observations are nested within subjects. For example, in a marketing study, we may have repeated measures of consumers’ attitudes to a brand over the life of a marketing campaign; in an epidemiology study, we may have repeated measures of a health outcome over the life of a drug treatment regime. In such studies, although some of the variance in your dependent variables will be due to variation across the various time occasions, some the variance in your dependent variables will also be due to variation amongst individuals themselves. This 2-day masterclass provides participants with an introduction to applied choice modelling using the Apollo software. Apollo is open-source software for estimating choice models available in the R computing environment. The master-class will focus on hands-on exercises using the open-source Apollo software for the estimation of choice models. This is a lab-based masterclass introducing students to the use of the Apollo software. The masterclass will be applied and place its emphasis on the implementation of the methods and models used by choice modellers and on the analysis and interpretation of choice modelling results; links to choice modelling theory will be made, but this is not the emphasis of the course. The masterclass will introduce participants to the software and to the family of choice models estimable within Apollo. The focus will be “hands-on” exercises and estimating choice models using Apollo with data provided by the instructor. The course builds from the basic, pioneering methodologies of Social Network Analysis (SNA): survey-based egonet SNA and sociometric, "whole network' SNA, and their extensions, to network sensitive ethnographies, community networks, web-based network surveys and research on social media activities. The course reviews the possibilities for working with rich network data from interview or online sources and the unique perspectives that qualitative and social research traditions bring to these tasks. The course explores ways to best manage and explore different kinds of network data in Excel, uses UCINET and NetDraw to produce network diagrams and descriptive statistics. We review other appropriate software related to participants' needs. The course serves as a transition to the associated ACSPRI courses Network Analysis in Social, Business and Political Research and Big Data Analysis for Social Scientists. Network research designs covered in this course are: * Surveys using ego-centric network (egonet) methods * Network-sensitive ethnographies * Sociometric (‘round robin’) ‘whole network’ studies and small group research * Associational/ Affiliation (‘2-mode’) networks (including ethological studies) * Cognitive mapping and socio-cognitive mapping (SCM) For each methodology we consider the best ways to code and manage raw data, the most efficient formats for importing such data into visualisation and analysis software and appropriate measures and statistics for reporting findings. By the end of the course, you will understand the principles of multiple regression, and be able to conduct regression analyses, interpret the results, obtain regression diagnostics to test the underlying model assumptions and write-up the results for publication. R is a free software environment for scientific and statistical computing and graphics that runs on all common computing platforms. An active and highly skilled developer community works on development and improvement. It has become an environment of choice for the implementation of new methodology. It is at the same time attracting wide attention from statistical application area specialists. The powerful and innovative graphics abilities available in R include the provision of well-designed publication-quality plots. The first day of this course will focus on the R software environment, the remaining days of this workshop will focus on learning advanced statistical methods with R. We will spend an almost equal amount of time in PowerPoint sessions and computer exercises. During the PowerPoint sessions the focus will be on the statistical methods with minimal discussion of computer software. This course covers a number of more complex models including models with mediating variables, models with interactions (moderation), ANOVA and ANCOVA models for latent outcomes, multi-level models (including repeated measures models) and mixture models. Furthermore, introductory courses usually deal only with continuous, normally distributed variables. While the main software used in the course is R, we also introduce Gephi for advanced visualisation. Data collection is via the VOSON R Packages (VOSON Dashboard, vosonSML). We also cover other important R packages for network and text analysis such as: igraph (network analysis and visualisation), quanteda (quantitative analysis of textual data), tidytext (text mining), and wordcloud (text word clouds). As well as allowing a researcher to elicit the changes in a subject (person, business, etc) over time, longitudinal data is also exceedingly powerful as it allows the within-subject and between-subject variance to be estimated independently (generally allowing the parameters in the statistical model to be estimated with a much tighter accuracy than traditional models). This course provides an overview of Longitudinal Data Analysis. As well as the statistical theory, an overview of the many applications and capabilities of LDA is given. The course is not particularly mathematical, but instead places emphasis on the fundamental concepts of LDA and how it is used by applied researchers. The workshop will focus on linear mixed effects models, however we will also go through generalized linear mixed effects models and any new material a participant will need to understand in order to successfully use generalized LME’s. There will be exercises using both types of models. The computer exercises for this workshop will be conducted in Stata. Stata has been chosen as it provides both basic and advanced functionality for conducting longitudinal data analyses. A full set of exercises and solutions in Stata will be provided in this workshop, where they include the Stata syntax required to perform each individual exercise. In addition the workshop presenter will demonstrate how to use Stata for the first exercise in each session prior to workshop participants individually working though the exercises for that session. (That is, data that is derived from subjects who are nested within groups or data that involves repeated measures that are nested within subjects) In conventional regression analysis it is assumed that subjects are randomly selected and, therefore, all the variance in your dependent variables is due solely to variation amongst individuals. However, in most studies, subjects are clustered within a group and multiple groups are sampled. For example, in an education study, we may have students clustered within multiple classes; in a human resourcing study, we may have employees clustered within multiple work units or teams. In such sampling, although some of the variance in your dependent variables will be due to variation amongst individuals, some the variance in your dependent variables will also be due to variation amongst the groups themselves. In such cases, multilevel analysis (MLA) should be employed to account for the different levels of variation. Repeated measure designs should also be analysed using multilevel analysis because the repeated observations are nested within subjects. For example, in a marketing study, we may have repeated measures of consumers’ attitudes to a brand over the life of a marketing campaign; in an epidemiology study, we may have repeated measures of a health outcome over the life of a drug treatment regime. In such studies, although some of the variance in your dependent variables will be due to variation across the various time occasions, some the variance in your dependent variables will also be due to variation amongst individuals themselves. As well as allowing a researcher to elicit the changes in a subject (person, business, etc) over time, longitudinal data is also exceedingly powerful as it allows the within-subject and between-subject variance to be estimated independently (generally allowing the parameters in the statistical model to be estimated with a much tighter accuracy than traditional models). This course provides an overview of Longitudinal Data Analysis. As well as the statistical theory, an overview of the many applications and capabilities of LDA is given. The course is not particularly mathematical, but instead places emphasis on the fundamental concepts of LDA and how it is used by applied researchers. The workshop will focus on linear mixed effects models, however we will also go through generalized linear mixed effects models and any new material a participant will need to understand in order to successfully use generalized LME’s. There will be exercises using both types of models. The computer exercises for this workshop will be conducted in Stata. Stata has been chosen as it provides both basic and advanced functionality for conducting longitudinal data analyses. A full set of exercises and solutions in Stata will be provided in this workshop, where they include the Stata syntax required to perform each individual exercise. In addition the workshop presenter will demonstrate how to use Stata for the first exercise in each session prior to workshop participants individually working though the exercises for that session. We review other appropriate software related to participants' needs.
