    Foundations of R for Research: Online https://dresa.org.au/events/foundations-of-r-for-research-online This course is a step by step interactive introduction for participants with no experience with R and RStudio. Notes will be provided and a set of exercises, covering a variety of data sets, will be run together during the lecture and also individually at the end of the day. The course content is particularly suited for those involved in research in the business, education, social and health sciences. Participants will first be introduced to the foundations of R such as libraries, matrix manipulation, objects, and data frames. Participants will use R Markdown in RStudio to generate reports, tables and graphics to Word, PDF and HTML files. Once the foundations have been covered a variety of data management skills will introduced (e.g. filtering data, merging data). The production of descriptive statistics tables and graphs will be covered so that participants can easily use RStudio to explore data and produce reports. The last session on each day will finish with a set of exercises for participants to run on their own and practice what they have learned that day.     Social Media Network and Text Analysis : Online https://dresa.org.au/events/social-media-network-and-text-analysis-online This course introduces participants to approaches for collecting and analysing network and text data from social media, (Twitter, YouTube and Reddit) and the WWW (hyperlink networks). In terms of analysis, the focus is on the application of social network analysis (SNA) and quantitative text analysis to online data. While the main software used in the course is R, we also introduce Gephi for advanced visualisation. Data collection is via the VOSON R Packages (VOSON Dashboard, vosonSML, voson.tcn). We also cover other important R packages for network and text analysis such as: igraph (network analysis and visualisation), quanteda (quantitative analysis of textual data), tidytext (text mining), and wordcloud (text word clouds). The course will be particularly useful to academics and PhD students who want to become more computationally literate, and those from technical disciplines (e.g. computer science, engineering, information science) who want to become more familiar with social science approaches to analysing social media data. It will examine questions dealt with in public policy, the social sciences and industry, using real data. This includes surveys, and economics and public health data. This is a problem-based course for subject matter experts who want to use R to take their quantitative analysis to the next level. By the end of the week you will be able to better conduct descriptive analysis and regression in R, and will be able to create impressive looking data visualisations. R is open source and free. It is flexible, powerful and intuitive and it is excellent for data visualisation. As it is open source, R has thousands of developers in leading universities, corporate research labs and other institutions across the world. This means its capabilities tend to exceed competing software, with new packages added or updated daily. This is particularly the case for data visualisation, in which R tends to lead the pack.     Advanced Statistical Analysis Using R: Online https://dresa.org.au/events/advanced-statistical-analysis-using-r-online R is a free software environment for scientific and statistical computing and graphics that runs on all common computing platforms. An active and highly skilled developer community works on development and improvement. It has become an environment of choice for the implementation of new methodology. It is at the same time attracting wide attention from statistical application area specialists. The powerful and innovative graphics abilities available in R include the provision of well-designed publication-quality plots. The first day of this course will focus on the R software environment, the remaining days of this workshop will focus on learning advanced statistical methods with R. We will spend an almost equal amount of time in PowerPoint sessions and computer exercises. During the PowerPoint sessions the focus will be on the statistical methods with minimal discussion of computer software. During the computer exercise time you will be using R to apply the statistical methods taught in the lectures.
