18 September - 30 October 2024
Top Tips from Galaxy Australia https://www.biocommons.org.au/events/galaxy-top-tips https://dresa.org.au/events/top-tips-from-galaxy-australia # You're invited to join us to discover Top Tips from the Galaxy Australia team! It’s an open drop-in session where the team will share tips, tricks, and nifty ways to make your life using Galaxy easier and faster. Each session will feature a live demonstration of a Top Tip. After the demo, we will open the floor with the Galaxy Australia team on hand to answer your questions about using Galaxy. All questions are welcome! The demonstrations will be recorded and shared on the [Australian BioCommons YouTube channel](https://www.youtube.com/c/AustralianBioCommonsChannel). We will not record the questions section to allow for an open and honest discussion about challenges that people are facing. ## Is this meeting for me? Are you: - Wanting to improve how you use Galaxy Australia? - Hoping to streamline your data analyses? - Seeking tips to make your research easier? - Looking to improve the reproducibility of your work in Galaxy Australia? - In search of help with a specific tool or workflow? If you answered yes to any of the above questions, then this is the meeting for you! Come along, learn a top tip about using Galaxy Australia, and ask us anything. ## When is it? Once a week on Wednesday at 11 am AEST / 12:30 pm ACST / 11 am AWST - 18 September - 25 September - 2 October - 16 October - 23 October - 30 October **Note: There is no Top Tips session on 9 October.** ## How do I join? Attendance is free. WEBINAR: Making sense of gene and protein lists with functional enrichment analysis
23 October 2024
WEBINAR: Making sense of gene and protein lists with functional enrichment analysis https://www.biocommons.org.au/events/funct-enrich-webinar https://dresa.org.au/events/webinar-making-sense-of-gene-and-protein-lists-with-functional-enrichment-analysis Do you have a long list of genes or proteins from omics experiments that you don’t know what to do with? This webinar explains how functional enrichment analysis can be used to understand what these lists mean by employing gene ontology and pathway information to highlight the underlying biology. We’ll discuss the statistics that underpin enrichment analysis methods and some of the most commonly used tools, databases and workflows. Want to get hands-on with functional enrichment analysis? [Come to our workshop on 20 and 21 November](https://www.biocommons.org.au/events/funct-enrich-workshop). Speakers: *Dr Hossein Valipour Kahrood, Bioinformatician, Monash Genomics and Bioinformatics Platform *Dr Cali Willet, Senior Research Bioinformatician, Sydney Informatics Hub, The University of Sydney Date/Time: 23 October 2024, 1 - 2 pm AEDT / 12 - 1 pm AEST / 12:30 - 1:30 pm ACDT/ 10 - 11 am AWST (check in your timezone) Who the webinar is for: This webinar is for Australian researchers and bioinformaticians who have gene or protein lists from omics experiments (e.g. RNA-Seq, protein expression). How to join: This webinar is free to join but you must register for a place in advance. WOKRSHOP: Making sense of gene and protein lists with functional enrichment analysis
20 - 21 November 2024
WOKRSHOP: Making sense of gene and protein lists with functional enrichment analysis https://www.biocommons.org.au/events/funct-enrich-workshop https://dresa.org.au/events/wokrshop-making-sense-of-gene-and-protein-lists-with-functional-enrichment-analysis Omics experiments often generate long lists of genes or proteins. Functional enrichment analysis identifies biological trends in the data by assessing these lists against gene ontology and pathway information. This can help interpret the experimental results in the context of larger biological systems. This workshop continues from our [introductory webinar](https://www.biocommons.org.au/events/funct-enrich-webinar) and provides a practical introduction to functional enrichment analysis. Using example data you will get hands-on with some of the most commonly used databases and tools for over representation (ORA) and gene set enrichment analysis (GSEA) and for identifying enriched biological functions in a list of genes or proteins. We’ll focus on tools available online and in R. Lead Trainers: Dr Hossein Valipour Kahrood, Bioinformatician, Monash Genomics and Bioinformatics Platform Dr Cali Willet, Senior Research Bioinformatician, Sydney Informatics Hub, University of Sydney Date/Time: 20 - 21 November 2024, 1 - 4 pm AEDT / 12 - 3 pm AEST/ 12:30 - 3:30 pm ACDT/10 am - 1 pm AWST. [Check in your timezone](https://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/fixedtime.html?msg=Biological+insights+from+omics+data+with+functional+enrichment+analysis&iso=20241120T13&p1=152&ah=3) Location: Online Format: This workshop will take place over two sessions. You must attend both sessions in order to get the most out of the workshop. Our trainers will introduce the concepts and guide you through hands-on exercises to help you put your new skills into action. Some of the workshop will use R/RStudio and we’ll start at a beginner friendly level. We will provide access to the tools and compute you need to complete the exercises. Who the workshop is for: This workshop is for Australian researchers and bioinformaticians working with omics experiments (e.g. RNA-Seq, protein expression) that generate gene or protein lists. How to apply: This workshop is free but participation is subject to application with selection. Applications close at 11:59pm AEDT, Tuesday 5 November 2024. [Apply here](https://funct-enrich-workshop.eventbrite.com.au/) Applications will be reviewed by the organising committee and all applicants will be informed of the status of their application (successful, waiting list, unsuccessful). Successful applicants will be provided with a Zoom meeting link closer to the date. More information on the selection process is provided in our [advice on applying for Australian BioCommons workshops](https://www.biocommons.org.au/workshop-applications). 2024-11-20 13:00:00 UTC 2024-11-21 16:00:00 UTC Australian BioCommons Online, Australia Online Australia Australian BioCommons training@biocommons.org.au [] [] [] expression_of_interest BioinformaticsFunctional enrichmentGenesProteins
