It is rapidly making inroads in the social sciences. In this introductory master-class, we will explore the epistemological foundations of QCA and question what the method can and cannot be used for. The master class will introduce participants in (i) the basics of QCA—set-theory and Boolean algebra; (ii) the various approaches to QCA—crisp set, multi value, and fuzzy set; (iii) current debates on QCA; and, (iv) the challenges you may encounter when developing a QCA. To get our heads around the logic of QCA, we will carry out a few QCA applications by hand and we will use an Excel plug-in for a very rudimentary QCA. This master class is designed for participants who have experience in qualitative or quantitative research and who are interested in applying qualitative comparative analysis (QCA) in their current or future studies. 2024-07-01 18:30:00 UTC 2024-07-04 21:30:00 UTC ACSPRI online, Australia online Australia ACSPRI info@acspri.org.au [] researchersPhD studentsHDR students 12 workshop open_to_all social data scienceStatistical MethodsQCAQualitative methodsQualitative Comparative Analysisresearch design -

Storytelling with Data Visualisation

Storytelling with Data Visualisation https://www.acspri.org.au/master-class-september-2024-data-visualisation-online https://dresa.org.au/events/storytelling-with-data-visualisation Studies have shown that readers will only spend 3 to 8 seconds looking at each plot in a report before deciding whether to invest more time examining that plot or to move on to the next part of the report (Storytelling with Data, Cole). This requires careful thought about the visualization design, and clever manipulation of the visualization software (such as the ggplot function in R). Additional thought is required if the data is not just shown in a static report or webpage, but is shown within a dashboard environment (such as using Shiny in R). This workshop has two objectives – to teach the design principles required to make plots that really stand out for the reader, and to teach the practical skills required to create these plots within R 2024-09-02 09:00:00 UTC 2024-09-04 16:00:00 UTC ACSPRI online online ACSPRI info@acspri.org.au [] [] 12 workshop open_to_all data visualisationdata storytellingR softwareData analysis -

This master-class offers lectures and data workshops covering the latest approaches to key areas of qualitative research. It outlines threats to credibility and shows how to make your research credible. 1. Finding a topic in your data (as opposed to quantitative research, qualitative research is often inductive; discovering unexpected things in your data) 2. Mixed methods. (Mixing qual and quant data. Using multiple qualitative methods. Advantages and limitations) 3. How many cases do you need? (sampling to social processes not to populations) 4. Applying qualitative research to social problems and practice (avoiding pre-defined policy aims; discovering practical relevance at the conclusion of a research project) 2024-09-30 18:30:00 UTC 2024-10-03 20:45:00 UTC ACSPRI Online, online, Australia Online online Australia ACSPRI info@acspri.org.au [] researcherPhD studentsHDR students 12 workshop open_to_all Qualitative Researchqualitative dataQualitative methodsQualitative PhD -

The course is not particularly mathematical, but instead places emphasis on the fundamental concepts of LDA and how it is used by applied researchers. 2024-07-08 09:00:00 UTC 2024-07-12 16:00:00 UTC ACSPRI online, Australia online Australia ACSPRI info@acspri.org.au [] researchersPhD studentsHDR students 12 workshop open_to_all longitudinal dataData analysissocial data scienceresearch data -
Applied Statistical Procedures
8 - 12 July 2024
Applied Statistical Procedures https://www.acspri.org.au/online-winter-program-2024/applied-statistical-procedures-online https://dresa.org.au/events/applied-statistical-procedures This course is taught from an applied perspective, with questions encouraged. This is an intermediate, course covering a range of the most commonly used statistical procedures. Research design, Experimental, Quasi-Experimental and Non-Experimental, will be covered so students can select the best design and statistical procedure for a research project, and to clarify exactly what claims can be made in relation to findings. It aims to provide participants with an ability to understand, run and interpret procedures. This course will further enhance your ability to understand research-based literature. The level falls between ‘Fundamentals of Statistics’, and the more detailed single procedure-based courses. This course will provide a good foundation for progression to the more detailed courses in (Multiple) Regression, Factor Analysis, SEM and Latent Variables using Mplus. Students may take this course using one of two statistical packages, SPSS or Jamovi. No prior knowledge of either SPSS or Jamovi is required. The target audience for this course range from Qualitative researchers wanting to gain Quantitative skills, to Quantitative researchers wanting to broaden their understanding across procedures, or to become more comfortable with covariance prior to taking SEM. 2024-07-08 10:00:00 UTC 2024-07-12 16:00:00 UTC ACSPRI online, Australia online Australia ACSPRI info@acspri.org.au [] researchersPhD studentsHDR students 12 workshop open_to_all Statistical Methodsapplied statisticsStatistics -

Storytelling with Data Visualisation
2 - 4 September 2024
This workshop has two objectives – to teach the design principles required to make plots that really stand out for the reader, and to teach the practical skills required to create these plots within R 2024-09-02 09:00:00 UTC 2024-09-04 16:00:00 UTC ACSPRI online online ACSPRI info@acspri.org.au [] [] 12 workshop open_to_all data visualisationdata storytellingR softwareData analysis -
Doing Credible Qualitative Research

Doing Credible Qualitative Research https://www.acspri.org.au/master-class-september-2024-credible-qualitative-research-online https://dresa.org.au/events/doing-credible-qualitative-research-693629f7-7539-4e22-ab76-3041b3ab452b Qualitative researchers often try to do the same as quantitative research but with smaller samples.
