    Data Analysis in R: Online https://dresa.org.au/events/data-analysis-in-r This course is intended for applied data analysts, including academics and postgraduate students, policy specialists and others. It will examine questions dealt with in public policy, the social sciences and industry, using real data. This includes surveys, and economics and public health data. The unit will help build participants’ ability to work with data in R and undertake rigorous statistical analysis, including spatial analysis and linear regression, and create publication-standard graphs of the results. The end result will be more professional and easy to understand research.     Fundamentals of Statistics: Online https://dresa.org.au/events/fundamentals-of-statistics-c773ce8c-36a5-4140-bca9-e276d2a324da In this course you will obtain a solid foundation in basic statistical concepts and procedures to progress with some confidence into more advanced topics. This is an introductory unit in statistical methods with the emphasis on statistical techniques applicable to the social sciences, although these introductory techniques are also appropriate to the health sciences. Our approach to learning will be largely non-mathematical, concentrating on concepts rather than mathematical theory. Participants familiar with the use of a statistical software package, but lacking statistical training should also start with this course. The course will be using the free and open-source software jamovi. there will be an opportunity to use IMB SPSS Statistics as an alternative.     Fundamentals of Choice Modelling https://dresa.org.au/events/fundamentals-of-choice-modelling Choice modelling is a specialised area of micro-econometrics that develops and applies mathematical models that represent human decision making. Choice models are used extensively to understand current behaviour and predict future choices in the applied fields of the economic sciences, especially environmental, health, and transport economics. Other application areas include business and marketing. In addition to addressing questions of academic interest, choice modelling informs policy and strategy making in these applied economic disciplines. This 2-day masterclass introduces students to choice models, discusses and contrasts the family of available model structures, and also talks about the data requirements, model estimation, and the use of models to produce outputs for policy.     Applied Choice Modelling using Apollo https://dresa.org.au/events/applied-choice-modelling-using-apollo Choice modelling is one the core methods of the applied economic sciences, including environmental, health, and transport economics. This 2-day masterclass provides participants with an introduction to applied choice modelling using the Apollo software. Apollo is open-source software for estimating choice models available in the R computing environment. The master-class will focus on hands-on exercises using the open-source Apollo software for the estimation of choice models. This is a lab-based masterclass introducing students to the use of the Apollo software. The masterclass will be applied and place its emphasis on the implementation of the methods and models used by choice modellers and on the analysis and interpretation of choice modelling results; links to choice modelling theory will be made, but this is not the emphasis of the course. The masterclass will introduce participants to the software and to the family of choice models estimable within Apollo. The focus will be “hands-on” exercises and estimating choice models using Apollo with data provided by the instructor. The masterclass will place particular emphasis on model estimation and interpretation.
