Data Analysis in R: Online
20 January - 4 February 2025
Data Analysis in R: Online https://www.acspri.org.au/summer-program-2025/data-analysis-r-online https://dresa.org.au/events/data-analysis-in-r This course is intended for applied data analysts, including academics and postgraduate students, policy specialists and others. It will examine questions dealt with in public policy, the social sciences and industry, using real data. This includes surveys, and economics and public health data. The unit will help build participants’ ability to work with data in R and undertake rigorous statistical analysis, including spatial analysis and linear regression, and create publication-standard graphs of the results. The end result will be more professional and easy to understand research. Exercises will be provided, including additional problems and datasets for extra practice outside of scheduled sessions, and one-on-one consultations can be scheduled by appointment the following week. 2025-01-20 10:00:00 UTC 2025-02-04 16:00:00 UTC ACSPRI online, Australia online Australia ACSPRI info@acspri.org.au ph: +61 3 8376 6496 [] [] 12 workshop open_to_all Introduction to RR statistical softwareR statisticsStatisticsStatistical Methods -
Fundamentals of Choice Modelling
3 - 4 February 2025
Parkville, Australia
Fundamentals of Choice Modelling https://www.acspri.org.au/master-class-feb-2025-fundamentals-choice-modelling https://dresa.org.au/events/fundamentals-of-choice-modelling Choice modelling is a specialised area of micro-econometrics that develops and applies mathematical models that represent human decision making. Choice models are used extensively to understand current behaviour and predict future choices in the applied fields of the economic sciences, especially environmental, health, and transport economics. Other application areas include business and marketing. In addition to addressing questions of academic interest, choice modelling informs policy and strategy making in these applied economic disciplines. This 2-day masterclass introduces students to choice models, discusses and contrasts the family of available model structures, and also talks about the data requirements, model estimation, and the use of models to produce outputs for policy. The course consists of a mix of theoretical lectures and case studies. 2025-02-03 09:00:00 UTC 2025-02-04 17:00:00 UTC ACSPRI The University of Melbourne, Parkville, Australia The University of Melbourne Parkville Australia 3052 ACSPRI info@acspri.org.au ph: +61 3 8376 6496 [] [] 20 workshop open_to_all Choice modellingeconometricsmarketing -
Applied Choice Modelling using Apollo
5 - 6 February 2025
Parkville, Australia
Applied Choice Modelling using Apollo https://www.acspri.org.au/master-class-feb-2025-applied-choice-modelling-using-apollo https://dresa.org.au/events/applied-choice-modelling-using-apollo Choice modelling is one the core methods of the applied economic sciences, including environmental, health, and transport economics. This 2-day masterclass provides participants with an introduction to applied choice modelling using the Apollo software. Apollo is open-source software for estimating choice models available in the R computing environment. The master-class will focus on hands-on exercises using the open-source Apollo software for the estimation of choice models. This is a lab-based masterclass introducing students to the use of the Apollo software. The masterclass will be applied and place its emphasis on the implementation of the methods and models used by choice modellers and on the analysis and interpretation of choice modelling results; links to choice modelling theory will be made, but this is not the emphasis of the course. The masterclass will introduce participants to the software and to the family of choice models estimable within Apollo. The focus will be “hands-on” exercises and estimating choice models using Apollo with data provided by the instructor. The masterclass will place particular emphasis on model estimation and interpretation. The exercises will span a range of application areas including environmental, health, and transport economics. 2025-02-05 09:00:00 UTC 2025-02-06 17:00:00 UTC ACSPRI The University of Melbourne, Parkville, Australia The University of Melbourne Parkville Australia 3052 ACSPRI info@acspri.org.au ph: +61 3 8376 6496 [] [] 20 workshop open_to_all Choice modellingeconometricsmarketing -
Predictive Analytics for Data Science: Linear and Non-Linear Modelling
28 - 29 March 2025
Predictive Analytics for Data Science: Linear and Non-Linear Modelling https://www.acspri.org.au/master-class-march-2025-predictive-analytics-data-science-online https://dresa.org.au/events/predictive-analytics-for-data-science-linear-and-non-linear-modelling-e8d89bd0-1e2e-44ba-b3bf-5f3094a2130f This masterclass is an introduction to linear and non-linear predictive models. It will provide an interactive step-by-step guide to running these models and key diagnostics using the R software platform. Regression modelling is a foundation in data science and a must for anyone wanting to venture into this space. Understanding when and how to use linear and non-linear regression models in everyday research is an essential skill for any analyst. Linear and non-linear regression models are commonly used to quantify the relationship between two or more variables by predicting a key outcome of interest. These models are used as effective and powerful tools to control for the potential confounding effect of extraneous variables and/or developing highly predictive models. Linear regression relates to continuous outcomes and is a fundamental regression technique in data science. Logistic regression is used when the outcome of interest is categorical and a fundamental classification technique in data science. When there is no theoretical or mechanistic model to suggest a particular functional form to describe the relationship between two or more variables of interest, Generalized Additive Models (GAMs) can used as they fit a nonparametric curve to the data without requiring pre-defining any particular mathematical model to describe the nonlinearity. Gaining a sound understanding of all these models is essential to understand when it is appropriate to use these techniques. 2025-03-28 09:30:00 UTC 2025-03-29 17:00:00 UTC ACSPRI online, Australia online Australia ACSPRI info@acspri.org.au [] researchersPhD studentsHDR students 12 workshop open_to_all Predictive modelsPredictive AnalyticsData Sciencesocial data science -
